The Reid Family and helicopters have had a long-standing relationship dating back to the early 1950’s. John Reid “Mr. Helicopter” started Helicopters New Zealand and was a pioneer for the New Zealand helicopter industry.
Second generation pilot Bill Reid started Nelson Helicopters in 1983, initially working on live deer recovery and then moving on to develop tourism in the Nelson and Marlborough regions. The main area of development at the time was the flying of overseas brown trout fishermen into the Kahurangi National Park.
Third generation pilot Toby Reid carried on the legacy that his forefathers created, having renamed the company ‘Reid Helicopters Nelson.’ Toby and his wife Rachael established their operation and developed a wide range of new and innovative tourism experiences to show to the world.
On 1st October 2019, another great aviation family, Darling Helicopters, joined Reid Helicopters to become Helicopters Nelson. Our ability to grow is a reflection on the loyalty shown by our valued clients and business partners. We wish to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support.
We are so appreciative of the wonderful area we live and fly in. We aim to keep it this way for the next generation to enjoy just as we do.
